Catherine Preston

Music has been integral to university lecturer Dr. Catherine Preston’s life ever since her childhood days in Hull. She has played, taught, studied and enjoyed music across all genres, but especially likes the baroque period.

She regularly performs with various ensembles in  Northumberland, the borders, Greater Manchester and internationally. She founded the Berwick Baroque Players in 2023 and is also a founder member of Tooti Flooti, a flute group based in Bury, Manchester formed at around the same time as Oasis, but without any of the strife.

Most memorable music moment? I played at an art exhibition featuring Harold Riley’s portraits of famous Manchester United icons. George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Sir Matt Busby were all standing near to me while I was playing. That was possibly the last time they were all together in public the same room. How I managed to play I don’t know.
