Art historian Maria Chester’s fascinating audio-visual lecture on music and the art of the Baroque (Saturday 28th Feb 2026, 2pm) will be complemented by live music from Edinburgh’s Gal Trio. Emma Cairns (violin), Elinor Roderick (violin) and Serenna MacLellan (flute) will be joining Maria on stage playing selected 16th/17th century pieces from the vast catalogue of J.S. Bach, Vivaldi and Handel. Featured artists critically assessed by Maria will include Velázquez, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Rubens, Poussin, and Vermeer. Between them, Maria and The Gal Trio, will explore this magical creative period that revolutionised how we listen and view music and art.
