Ross Hume

Freelance violinist Ross Hume enjoys a varied performing and teaching career.  He has performed many different genres of music from the renaissance era to the 21st century.  Ross enjoys freelancing with different orchestras across the UK and taking part in many different chamber music projects.

He is enjoying expanding his teaching commitments to help students overcome technical difficulties and achieve their performing goals.  Ross, a graduate of the University of York and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, has studied with players including Kyra Humphreys, Simon Blendis and Cecily Ward.  He occasionally enjoys playing the viola in various chamber and orchestral ensembles.

Most memorable musical moments? Two occasions are very special to me.  The first was performing Mahler’s Second Symphony with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra to a packed Barbican Centre Concert Hall in London.  Putting on the performance with peers I’d only just met, within two weeks, is an experience I’ll never forget.  The second, is completely opposite in scale!  I played in a very small chamber orchestra, in a church in rural Cornwall, again with many people I didn’t know for a week.  Here I met friends I’ll have for life!  We put on a couple of concerts, but the pinnacle was performing Beethoven’s Third Symphony… without conductor and… there were only three first violins!  The sheer emotion, commitment and energy that was committed to this performance will remain with me for the rest of my life.
